1830 S/Ldr Donaldson took off to test two lights which he had placed at each end of the sector patrol line. These lights were designed in such a way that they were only visible from certain angles and would enable pilots to keep accurately on their patrol lines when flying in “black-out” conditions. On landing S/Ldr Donaldson reported that the lights were satisfactory, as far as he could ascertain under the weather conditions which prevailed at the time. There was heavy mist and low clouds at approx. 10/10ths at 800feet. A further test would be made.
